Fundraising For New Equipment For Puncknowle Playing Field

bridevalley : July 27, 2010 11:45 am : Event Reports

BRIDPORT CHARTER FAYRE

Very many thanks to all those who made cakes for the cake stall at the Bridport Charter Fayre to raise funds for the Puncknowle Playing Field Restoration Fund.

Your generosity and effort is greatly appreciated.

Particular thanks are due to Liz Slater for all her work organising this and to Julie Arak-Newman for helping Liz on the day.

The restoration fund is now better off by £86 – not as much as Liz was hoping for (she made £130 in 2008) but, if anything, the day was too hot and cakes were not top of the buying public’s agenda.

Conservation Work Completion in Puncknowle Playing Field

bridevalley : July 18, 2010 11:51 am : Event Reports

Sunday 18th July 2010 was a historic day for our village!

Dorset Countryside Volunteers completed restoration work on the 17 metre stretch of stone wall between the Playing Field and the Old Forge – thereby conserving an important heritage of dry-stone walls in the county in the traditional style and employing traditional methods.

The final delineation of the boundary line between the Playing Field and the Old Forge has not only produced a beautiful dry-stone wall but has given us added security for small children using the playing field.

No-one can ever recall this wall ever being anything but a pile of grass-overgrown rubble (and that goes back over 50 years.) Parish Council Chairman, Tony Edwards, says he has breathed a huge sigh of relief at the conclusion of three years of effort in settling a boundary dispute, procuring/splitting/transporting stone, making arrangements with DCV – and dealing with the inevitable complaints about inaction!) I

Thanks have been expressed on behalf of the village to Douglas Kite, Peter Warren and all the DCV teams who have helped in the reconstruction of this wall over the last few years.

Note that the celebration was only cider (no champagne) – but Elizabeth’s cake more than made up for that!

FUNDRAISING FOR HELP THE HEROES - ARMED FORCES DAY 2010

bridevalley : July 6, 2010 5:20 am : Event Reports

IN THE GROUNDS OF THE CROWN INN, PUNCKNOWLE – Sunday 27th June

What an amazingly successful day this was for such a small village. We raised £1326.55 through this event and the Puncknowle Fundraisers have agreed to add a further contribution so that a total of £1500 will be presented to the Help the Heroes Fund. We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day and a very good turn-out of local people and visitors – it could not have been better.

Thanks to everyone for making this such a successful fund-raising event for this very worthy cause. If this village’s results were replicated proportionately around the country at the other 350+ fundraising venues, it would give a great boost to the provision of services for our armed forces personnel.

Grand Draw prize-winners have been listed at the Crown Inn and prizes now distributed – the prize draw itself raising over £400 towards the total – so a special thanks to our local businesses for giving prizes so generously.

The biggest thanks of all must of course go to our event organiser – Mrs Brenda Oliver – who worked tirelessly to get the show on the road!
